The lifeless body of Senior Assistant Inspector General Gitiba Mwita was discovered at his Matuu residence.

Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) Gitiba Mwita was discovered dead at his rental house in Matuu Town, Machakos County, on Friday morning. Mwita, also the Commandant Border Police Patrol Unit, reportedly lost consciousness suddenly at his residence around midnight.

The senior officer was taken to Matuu Level 4 Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. "The body was transferred to Umash Funeral Home pending autopsy," as stated in the police report.

Mwita previously served as the commandant of the Security of Government Buildings & VIP Protection Unit before his transfer to the Rural Border Patrol Unit (RBPU). At the Border Police Unit, he played a key role in national development by combatting terrorism, controlling small arms, and reducing cross-border crimes at entry points.

One of his recent public appearances was before the Senate National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Baringo Senator William Cheptumo in September. During this session, Mwita cautioned Senators about the impact of poor road infrastructure on security provision in the North Rift region.

Furthermore, he advocated for officers to coexist with communities, emphasizing the importance of fostering good relations. Colleagues praised him for his leadership within the Administration Police Service.

"In shock this morning. We've lost a leader, a legend, a Dad to many, a visionary leader. Administration Police is mourning. Woke up to the sad news that our BPU Commandant is no more. RIP Gitiba Mwita," commented one of his colleagues.
